Round eyes gleaming with curiosity ,
She stood there silently .
Amazed by the bounties of nature
She wished to discover more.
On the other side of the road ,stood a man ,she knew.
Soon her silence will turn into screams,
Her smile into an ominous glower.
Soon her dreams will be shattered,
Her eyes will be full of tears.
What is happening to her?
Why is she feeling this excruciating pain?
She cries for her mother’s warmth as there is nothing else she understands.
Surrounded by the pool of her own blood .
Pain ! Agony ! Misery !
She is silent again
The valor of the mystic Bengal tiger, the great Himalayas crowned with white snow, the never ending green pasture lands and rains full of aspirations and dreams, all will be destroyed .The end might not be on 21 December 2012 ,but it’s not far away either!
With India becoming the most populous country in forty years its dependence on agriculture will increase too and so will be the impact of climate change on its population. There will be reductions in yields and monsoon will become highly unpredictable. The impact of climate change could also result in problems with food security and may threaten the livelihood activities upon which much of the population depends.
Sundarbans are a dazzling panorama of wildlife and having one of the world’s largest tiger populations which could disappear by the end of this century due to climate change. The melting of glaciers will lead to rise in level of water bodies leading to floods. On the other hand the emission of aerosols may lead to drier conditions.
The rise of sea level ,uncertain and unpredictable rains ,draughts , floods all this constitutes a man-made catastrophe called global warming ,this is what we are heading for!
There are no proper reforms in the country, the judicial system is inherently flawed, and protests should now be adopted as an ideology. I always thought so, so much so that I spoke in conviction wherever I did, to whomever I did. This was until I found my messiah who spoke the language of protest as much as I did; only this time it was out in the open. I supported him, no matter how uncanny it appeared I stood in his favor. On 20th August, he organized a fast at the Ramlila ground, lacs of people turned up I was perhaps amongst many of those who stood there wearing ‘I am Anna’ topi and voiced my opinion on corruption, I was accompanied by several well educated people, and we just believed we would do it this time. Fast forward to December 2011, MMRDA grounds, Anna’s second meet only a few thousand people turned up, he was adviced against a fast by the doctor, and he had to call it off. From being everywhere in the news, in a few months he was nowhere, everyone forgot him, no one took the legacy forward, lokpal began to be called jokepal and the same people who wore the topi, said that Anna was all a gimmick, a cheap publicity, it’s all over now. So for all practical reasons, protests cannot be adopted as ideology and they should never be. People change, revolutions come but they are not over night, one fast and judiciary system is set, you really think so?
Protests should be within, battles should be fought in every mind, battles to oust corruption and make the nation a better place to be. Do you ever want to have your child in politics? Do you pay Rs.100 to a policeman so he may not charge you Rs. 200 for breaking the signal? Do you buy pirated CDs worth Rs.20 and not original ones for they cost a few bucks more? Do you have a cousin who doesn’t want to be a DJ or musician but an honest IAS officer. Its these battles I am talking about.
You are walking on a street and a man is harassing you and so much so that you can’t ignore it or run away easily. You are scared because you don’t have any self defense weapons with you. Now what?
Don’t worry even if you don’t have pepper spray or a Swiss knife, your handbag is good enough!
Here are some ways to protect yourself without any self defense weapons.
This is the most convenient option. Just smash your handbag onto that person with great strength and energy and run away as soon as you can! If you hit someone with a good blow to the head it may leave your attacker unable to pursue their attack so that you can make your escape. Another good area to hit someone with a heavy handbag is between the legs!
2. Hair Brush
Hair brushes can be used to stab the attacker and dragging stiff bristles across an attacker’s eyes has beneficial results.A comb dragged across skin acts virtually like a knife, although it is unlikely to do any lasting damage the pain inflicted can be significant.
Hairspray, sprayed into the attackers eyes will temporarily blind an attacker. This can also be done with a deodorant or a perfume
4 . Umbrella
During the rainy season if your carrying an umbrella it can act as great self defense weapon. You can use the pointed end of the umbrella to stab the assailant near the eyes or the abdomen just below the breastbone.
5. Hair Pulling or long nails
Pulling hair and using your long nails to attack the attacker can also prove beneficial.
6. A bunch of Keys
Not a very effective way to defend yourself but if you aim it on the eye of the attacker it can work
7. Waist Belt
It can work if it’s in your handbag otherwise taking it out from around your waist is going to be a task.
The night will come ,the sky will turn dark
The wind will become sharp
My fears will tear me apart
My weaknesses will overtake my strengths
I might fall ,I might stumble and I might face a lot of struggles
But even in the dark i will still see the stars
And it’s twinkling light will take me across the turbulent streams
And that’s when I will follow my dreams!!
Most of our life is a series of images. They pass us by like towns on the highway. But sometimes, a moment stuns us as it happens. And we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment… every part of it… will live on forever
The important thing is not to be bitter over life’s disappointments. Learn to let go of the past, and recognize that every day won’t be sunny. And when you find yourself lost in the darkness of despair remember, it’s only in the black of night that you see the stars, and those stars lead you back home.
“So don’t be afraid to make mistakes, to stumble and fall, because most of the time the greatest rewards come from doing the things that scare you the most. Maybe you’ll get everything you wish for. Maybe you’ll get more than you ever could have imagined. Who knows where life will take you. The road is long and in the end, the journey is the destination.”
At this watershed moment of the lives of my friends of class 12th, I am reminded the great words by Rabindranath Tagore, ‘where the mind is without fear’. I wish for you a mental cosmos where you are confident individuals, not scared to do the most uphill tasks. Where you are not cosseted in the four walls of fear, and break the shackles and become real performers, real doers. This is a time where girls from protected, disciplined world will gradually transcend into the so called real world and the attitude with which you leave will be the cornerstone of what you become tomorrow. As we stand here on this beautiful day, my friends we wish for you an attitude of a real performer, one who does not look back but dives into turbulent waters with a crazy stubbornness to swim through and survive the fiercest storms. I wish for you a divine belief, a never-give up attitude and a little piece of arrogance that tells the achievers out there in the world with a loud thud, ‘if you can, why can’t I?’
May your journey be that of valor and we do not want to say good bye because tomorrow when we stand there to become a part of your world, we would look for those familiar faces, who would draw their hands out and share their experiences with us.

During my whole life I’ve always been rejected .
They didn’t believe I could make it right ,
They didn’t believe that I could ever take a flight.
Even though I’ve never got it straight ,I will never lose my faith .
Every step that I’ll take ,will make me stronger to face the world .
Cause I’m not a looser i’m an aspiring winner!
